Al shabaab has launched an overnight daring raid on a army base manned by Somali government troops in the outskirts of the southern city of Qoryoley in Lower Shabelle region.
According to residents, a heavy battle has erupted following the attack on SNA base, and both sides have engaged in a deadly gunfight which left several soldiers and militants dead.
The exact number of the casualties are yet confirmed, as both sides did not comment on the combat. The local villagers said situation has returned to normal after the battle subsided.
Al shabaab has been driven out of the major towns in the region in 2014 – 2015, but still capable of carrying sporadic ambush attacks against Somali and AMISOM troops’ bases and their military convoys.
